In Memoriam: Warren L. Kreunen
Warren L. Kreunen, von Briesen’s managing shareholder and chief executive officer from 1976-2001, passed away on Thursday, February 18 after a short stay in hospice care.
During Warren’s 25-year tenure as managing shareholder, the firm grew from seven to 80 lawyers. In particular, this week marks the 25th anniversary of the merger between von Briesen & Purtell and Gibbs, Roper, Loots & Williams. The joining of these two well-established firms was due in large part to Warren’s visionary leadership. In gratitude and recognition for his contributions to the firm, in September of 2018 von Briesen dedicated the Milwaukee office’s 8th floor mediation and conference center “The Warren L. Kreunen Mediation and Conference Center”.
Throughout his long career with the firm, Warren made countless contributions to the legal profession. At his core, Warren was a School Lawyer. He represented school boards throughout the state and led the trial team representing seven suburban school districts in the Milwaukee desegregation case. He served as a trusted advisor and director of North Shore Bank for 28 years. He was a longtime downtown Milwaukee Rotary member and a dedicated H.O.G. member. He was also a mentor and friend to so many, both inside and outside the firm. His leadership, care and dedication to our firm and its people are a legacy that will long be remembered.
