Alexander R. Karana is a first-generation Chaldean-Assyrian American attorney based in Chicago, IL. Alex’s practice involves prosecuting patent and trademark applications for diverse clients and providing counsel in business transactions across entertainment, engineering, and technology sectors. He is a USPTO Patent Bar Attorney with a Chemical Engineering degree from Michigan State University. He is also active in his community, currently serving as President of the Assyrian American Bar Association and Treasurer of the Chaldean American Bar Association.
Before joining von Briesen, Alex worked for a network development firm, where he focused on licensing within a blockchain ecosystem specifically for carbon credit markets. During law school, he was Editor in Chief of the Review of Intellectual Property Law, a Top 3 Global Technology Law Journal in 2020. In addition, he served as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Judge Thomas M. Durkin in the Northern District of Illinois, U.S. District Court.
Prior to law school, Alex was a project manager at Aisin World Corp. of America, a subsidiary of Aisin Seiki, where he led automotive transmission developments for major OEM programs like the Jeep Wrangler and Polaris Slingshot.
