Health Law Webinar: Independence Day - Preparing for Wisconsin’s APRN Modernization Act
-
Webcast
The newly enacted Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Modernization Act (2025 Wisconsin Act 17) creates a new APRN licensure category and, for the first time, allows qualifying APRNs to practice independently without a collaborative agreement with a physician or dentist—raising a number of questions for hospitals, clinics, and other employers of advanced practice nurses.
Our Attorneys will review the key provisions of the law, including the new licensing and clinical practice hour requirements for independent practice and the changes to prescriptive authority, use of the “APRN” title, and the delegation of certain clinical tasks. They will also address the practical challenges the Act may present, including how Wisconsin’s new scope-of-practice rules interact with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payor requirements that may still call for a collaborative arrangement.
Attendees will learn what license holders, employers and medical staffs should be doing now and how to be prepared for the September 1, 2026 effective date.
