Kristen Nelson is a Shareholder in the Health Law Section. Her practice focuses on professional licensure defense, Medicare and Medicaid audits and overpayment disputes, government investigations and enforcement actions, the False Claims Act, and Medicare exclusion actions. Kristen has negotiated successful resolutions for healthcare and business professionals before the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Drug Enforcement Agency; and childcare centers before the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. She also represents clients before the Wisconsin Division of Hearings and Appeals, Office of Lawyer Regulation, Wisconsin State Courts, the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Kristen regularly consults with criminal and employment attorneys in the course of their representation of licensed professionals. She understands how the unique and potential collateral consequences a conviction or termination can have on a licensed individual. Kristen works collaboratively with the licensed professionals’ attorneys to help mitigate damage to their professional livelihood as well as complying with any reporting requirements to employers and state and federal regulatory agencies.

Kristen is active in several health law associations including currently serving as a member of the Health Law Section Board for the State Bar of Wisconsin. She is also the President of the Friends of the Milwaukee Public Library Board.
