Public Sector Town Hall: A Roadmap for Development - Positioning Your Community for Growth
-
Webcast
Development doesn’t just happen, it is planned, negotiated, and, when the pieces aren’t in place, litigated. Whether your community is courting a major employer, updating its comprehensive plan, or negotiating its first development agreement, the decisions made early in the process shape outcomes for years to come. This Town Hall will give city, village, town, and county officials a practical roadmap for guiding development from vision to shovels in the ground.
We are also pleased to include Joe Peterangelo from the Wisconsin Policy Forum, who will present the Forum’s recent research on permitting timelines for construction projects. Drawing on the Forum’s Cleared for Construction study of development approval and permitting across metro Milwaukee, the discussion will explore what actually drives the time it takes a project to move from plan submission to building permit, and what local policymakers can do to build the predictable, transparent process that developers and residents alike are looking for.
Attendees will learn how legal, planning, and economic development strategy fit together and how to avoid expensive missteps or missed opportunity costs that can arise when they don't.
