Katie Sluman is a member of the Business Practice Group. She represents closely held and family-owned businesses in mergers and acquisitions, including strategic and private equity acquisitions, partner buyouts and minority equity transfers. Katie drafts, reviews and negotiates the agreements those transactions require, including asset and stock purchase agreements, employment agreements and related transactional documents.
Katie serves closely held business clients in an outside general counsel capacity, negotiating their day-to-day commercial contracts and advising on employment matters. She works alongside the firm’s tax and estate planning attorneys on governance questions for family office clients, premarital agreements and related corporate matters.
Katie earned a degree in finance before attending law school, and she draws on that background when evaluating financial statements, deal terms and valuation questions for her clients. Katie has a particular interest in name, image and likeness (NIL) matters, having helped launch and build a platform connecting collegiate athletes with brand partners.
Katie is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She serves on the Board of Directors for The Windy City Seminoles, Chicago’s chapter for Florida State University Alumnus. In her free time, she participates in as many Spartan Races as she can and plays in S3 leagues for softball, kickball and dodgeball.
